Message from the President
Based on the vision of "Transforming Your Imagination into Reality", we at Roland DG provide products for the signage industry manufacturing outdoor advertising and various other sectors engaged in making things around the world, and propose new manufacturing processes based on digital value. We believe that the manufacturing industry should look squarely at and assume responsibility for the effect of products on customers and business activities on the environment and society, and we are actively involved in such efforts. Roland provides office supply products in support of customer efforts to boost work efficiency. We also engage in economical functional design suited for the times, with development of more compact, lightweight products with reduced power consumption requirements, and of environmentally conscious ink, etc., toward the cohesive goal of safety, ease of use, and a reduced burden on the environment. In addition, our factories operate under the concept of "Our Digital Factory Places People and the Environment First", which means factory facility design that takes the environment into consideration, and digital control of product design development, resource procurement, production, and shipping, toward the goal of general optimization of manufacturing. Our method of online sharing of the latest design and other information throughout the company to ensure simultaneous progress in all processes has served to boost operations and distribution efficiency, and to greatly reduce our consumption of paper, electricity, and other resources. We believe that Roland's mission is "making things" that are in demand in our modern times, and that this act of "making things" constitutes an integral part of the environmental activities of Roland DG. Moreover, these activities are achieved through daily innovations arising from each employee's awareness of the environment and quality. The year 2008 was a momentous year for reaffirming awareness of the need for urgency in responding to climate change, with the convening of the Hokkaido Toyako Summit in Japan on the theme of preventing global warming, and the widespread devastation around the world due to cyclones, hurricanes, and other abnormal weather phenomena. With the serious advance of global warming, reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and effective use of resources and energy are urgent issues shared by all mankind. Roland has developed a three-year plan (FY2008-FY2010) for reducing CO2 emissions by 6% in environment management activities throughout the company. We shall continue using this management system to strive for improved environmental awareness among all of our employees, and to work toward sustainable reduction of the environmental burden through innovation and ingenuity based on the company slogan: "Be Creative, Be The Best, and Be Enthusiastic".
