Roland Unveils High-Performance Low-volatility SOL INK Printers & Printer/Cutters

Blazing speed, revolutionary software RIP and legendary Roland quality.

Hamamatsu, Japan, September 10, 2002 – Roland DG Corporation today introduced the SOLJET PRO II Series of 74" and 54" printers and 54" printer/cutter. The new devices join the all-new PRO II family of inkjets, which include the Hi-Fi JET PRO II printer and CAMMJET PRO II printer/cutter.

The SOLJET PRO II can print up to 28 m2/hr (300 sqft/hr). That's not draft mode! Roland developed this unique, sign-quality print mode especially for sign, exhibit and POP makers. One inch wide, advanced Piezo print heads are loaded with 360 nozzles. Printing a large 1.3 x 5 m banner now takes only 14 minutes. The SOLJET PRO II can even achieve true 1440 dpi x 1440 dpi resolution for fine art, photography and mural size graphics.

The versatile SOLJET PRO II, SC-540 is loaded with high-performance features like Roland's renowned contour cutting. Once an image has been printed, it can automatically contour cut your design without having to reload or reposition the media. Roland's CAMM-1 cutting technology makes quick work of window signs, decals, labels, point-of-purchase displays and packaging prototypes. With its curve smoothing function, the SC-540 cuts elegant arcs and curves with amazing accuracy at speeds up to 24"/sec.

Should you need to laminate your work, Quadralign — Roland's unique four-point automatic optical registration function allows you to remove a print, laminate and then reload the graphic for perfect contour cutting. The SC-540 realigns the cutting path and compensates for skew and image distortion* — an industry first!

Low-Volatile SOL INK

Roland SOL INK (CMYK+LcLm) has a unique, low-volatile chemistry that allows signmakers to print durable graphics without having to purchase special ventilation or environmental equipment. Odor and drying time are minimal. Signmakers can produce signs, banners and exhibits that last up to three years outdoors.* SOL INK is water and UV resistant.

Revolutionary RIP Software

Included with all PRO II inkjet devices, Roland SelectColor™ RIP (RSC) is loaded with features that make it fast and easy to produce graphics. RSC offers simultaneous RIP & Print capability and several powerful layout options, including automatic/manual nesting, tiling and grouping.

RSC also includes IntelligentPrintControl™ — a powerful color calibration tool that can automatically determines the optimum dot size, dot combinations, dot placement, tone curve, and the proper amount of ink for each individual media. Designers simply select the ideal print mode, and RSC does the rest. This state-of-the-art technology delivers truly uncompromising quality for the most discerning applications, even for high-speed printing. Printing and cutting operations can be handled simultaneously from a variety of software applications including Adobe® Illustrator, CorelDRAW®, QuarkXPress® and Pagemaker®.
