Roland DG Releases All-New DIMENSE DA-640 Dimensional Surface Printer
Groundbreaking Technology Makes it Easier than Ever to Produce Large-Format Textured Output

Hamamatsu, Japan, June 26, 2025 – Roland DG Corporation, a leading manufacturer of wide-format inkjet printers and printer/cutters worldwide, has announced the release of the new DIMENSE DA-640, a wide-format dimensional surface printer that enables the production of full-color prints with embossing effects achieved more easily and cost-effectively than alternative methods – allowing for high-value, high-impact output across a range of applications, on-demand.

The innovative DIMENSE solution consists of the DA-640 with newly developed printheads for beautiful output, plus specialized media that raises up to 2mm in thickness when exposed to the heat in the printer, and a structural ink that precisely controls where the embossing occurs on the print.

Embossing effects printed with DIMENSE technology

Because the DA-640 can produce full-color dimensional prints from a one-off to as many as required, it greatly increases the possibilities for the on-demand production of textured interior surfaces, which often use ready-made artwork with uniform design, and expanding creative possibilities beyond a limited stock, and without requiring costly inventory.

In addition, after printing emboss-only effects, you can then paint over the media to produce awe-inspiring effects which are uniquely different from digital printing. Paints and other tools are available in the DIMENSE solution.

A wide range of specialized DIMENSE media are also available, such as matte, suede, silver, gold, pearl and chameleon. The lineup includes media that is compliant with the U.S. Type Ⅱ standard, which defines the performance of wallpaper for commercial applications, as well as high scratch-resistance. Tension fabric and roll-up banners for indoor signs and displays are available for selecting the most appropriate media for different situations.

For increased peace of mind, the DIMENSE digital printing solution is also eco-friendly. DIMENSE media is PVC-free, the CMYK inks are water-based resin, and the structural ink is butylene glycol-free and conforms to various safety standards such as AgBB, A+, UL, and GREENGUARD Gold “Unrestricted” wall coverings.

For ease of use, print data creation can be done not only in popular design applications, but also in the new Roland DG Connect Designer DIMENSE Module, which allows you to create everything from simple designs to embossing layers, and offers a visualizer for previewing the output effects before printing. VersaWorks 7 RIP software is also included, which is compatible with Windows and macOS, and allows anyone to easily set detailed print settings and produce high-quality output, so even first-time users can start printing immediately after installation.
