Roland DG Selected to Present Two Case Studies at the “All-Japan Logistics Kaizen Challengers Conference 2026”
Hamamatsu, Japan, June 19, 2026 – Roland DG Corporation, a leading provider of digital imaging solutions, today announced that two case studies from its SCM division were selected as outstanding kaizen initiatives and presented at the “All-Japan Logistics Kaizen Challengers Conference 2026,” organized by the Japan Institute of Logistics Systems and related organizations.
This conference is a nationwide initiative aimed at sharing outstanding kaizen efforts in the logistics sector and contributing to enhanced corporate competitiveness and the resolution of social challenges. A record 48 cases were selected in 2026.
Case studies selected from Roland DG
1. Securing full-load orders by sharing images of ocean container loading conditions among four parties
With the sharp rise in ocean freight rates, maximizing container space utilization has become a key challenge for Roland DG. Previously, coordination with international customers and internal departments required significant time, as communication relied primarily on written documents and drawings. Through this initiative, the company implemented the following measures to accelerate consensus-building and maximize loading efficiency:
- Visualized container loading conditions by deploying a loading simulation tool
- Shared visual information among four parties—the order processing department, logistics department, international customers, and shipment sites
- Reviewed loading methods
- Established operational processes to facilitate coordination between internal departments and external stakeholders

Key achievements
- Improved transportation efficiency by increasing container load factors
- Reduced CO2 emissions by decreasing the number of containers used
- Contributed to addressing the “2024 problem” in the logistics sector
Naomi Suzuki, Group Leader, Logistic Management Unit, SCM Operations Department
This initiative focused on how to foster a shared understanding among stakeholders, including internal departments and international customers. By visualizing loading conditions, we were able to transform coordination-intensive work—traditionally time-consuming—into a more efficient and meaningful process that supports faster decision-making.
2. Reducing logistics costs by improving packaging of service parts ASSY
To address shipping damage to component units (Service Parts ASSY) used in product repair and maintenance, Roland DG developed a design and evaluation system tailored to each part’s shape, weight, and center of gravity. Through this initiative, the company implemented the following measures to achieve both quality assurance and cost reduction:
- Conducted correlation analysis between packaging specifications and damage
- Designed new packaging specifications based on product characteristics (shape, weight, center of gravity)
- Conducted assessments from multiple perspectives, including drop tests, cost, and workability
- Developed new shipping inspection standards and integrated them into production processes

Key achievements
- Achieved annual cost savings of approximately 610,000 yen
- Estimated cumulative savings of approximately 4.8 million yen
- Reduced shipping damage caused by packaging
- Reduced time required for quality inspections (approximately 10 minutes per package)
- Reduced service call-outs and reshipments
Keigo Okusa, Logistics Management Unit, SCM Operations Department
Our packaging improvement efforts focused on carefully analyzing on-site issues and addressing their root causes, enabling us to achieve a balance between quality and cost. We will continue to promote kaizen initiatives at operational sites and contribute to sustainable logistics.
Yukinori Yamamoto, Manager, Logistics Management Unit, SCM Operations Department
With a history spanning more than four decades, the All-Japan Logistics Kaizen Challengers Conference is one of the largest events in the logistics sector for sharing kaizen case studies.
Roland DG has been promoting logistics kaizen initiatives for several years, and with consistent results beginning to emerge, we submitted two case studies for the first time—both of which were selected as outstanding examples.
These initiatives addressed long-standing challenges in logistics operations by advancing both business transformation through visualization and standardization, and improvements in quality and cost through on-site analysis.
As a result, we improved transportation efficiency, reduced costs, enhanced quality, and minimized environmental impact simultaneously, thereby increasing value across the entire supply chain.
These achievements were made possible through close coordination and collaboration with related departments, and could not have been accomplished by the logistics department alone.
Looking ahead, we will continue to enhance cross-departmental initiatives while promoting digitalization and logistics improvements within the SCM sector. We are also committed to further increasing corporate value by optimizing global logistics and reducing environmental impact.
