Roland DG Hosts Virtual One-Day Internship Program

12/10/2021 Corporate Activities

Roland DG hosted online internships (three-day/one-day) from August to September 2021, with 40 interns taking part in.
We joined the interns on September 7 for a one-day online internship to see how much fun they were having turning their ideas into reality. We found that they were printing on various types of materials and making unique accessories with the goal of finding out more about Roland DG products.

The program began with members of our staff giving a presentation on the main features and functions of our flagship printers and milling machine. The quality of images of printing and precision of milling was somewhat difficult to convey due to the program being held online, but the interns were shown the capabilities of our machines and the broad range of applications that they could achieve.

Following briefings on two printers, the interns were able to operate them remotely using design software in order to gain a better insight into the customization potential that is available through digital technology.
The first task involved using a UV printer to make coasters featuring designs created by each of the interns. After they completed that task, the interns then used a photo impact printer to make their own dog tags by imprinting their name and favorite phrase on metal plates.

Although the interns operated the machines remotely, it was a great way for them to make a truly one-of-a-kind keepsake. Positive feedback included: “It was a wonderful opportunity being able to create the design I had in my head!” and “I could tell the designs we made were so vibrant and accurate, even though the program was conducted online.”

After the interns completed making their designs, they took an online tour around the Creative Center at Roland DG headquarters in Hamamatsu, Japan, where works of art made by creators around the world are on display. The tour demonstrated to the interns the almost unlimited potential of our products that goes far beyond the production of coasters and dog tags.

The main goal of our products is to make it possible for our customers everywhere to transform their imagination into reality.

After being shown the capabilities of our products and how creators turned their ideas into reality, the interns were given the opportunity to have a video chat with our young engineers who were similar in age to the interns. Our staff drew on their own experiences to talk about how rewarding it is developing products and services that creators love using. Time was set aside at the end for interns to ask questions about working at Roland DG, and our engineers also shared job-hunting tips.

The interns thoroughly enjoyed the experience, with one saying, “It was great getting to talk with current staff, and I learned a lot about Roland DG’s products and company culture.” Another found the experience rewarding: “The video chat gave me a better insight about what my student life should be like moving forward.”

While the interns seemed slightly anxious at the start of the internship, by the end of the day everyone was enjoying the fun-filled atmosphere.

It was great to see that the interns found the program rewarding, despite the internship only running for one day. We would like to give a huge thanks to all the interns who took part in our program!
