Making Acrylic Keychains from Digital Coloring Books at Workshop in Osaka
11/04/2025 Corporate Activities, Digital Printing
OSAKA Satellite EXPO 2025 was an event that helped to spread the vitality of the “Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan” to the city of Osaka. Roland DG cooperated on the digital coloring book and acrylic key chain production workshop “Mirai Sketch Park” at the event. Participants challenged themselves to color digitally using a pen tablet, and the completed digital coloring books were then printed on acrylic keychains on the spot using our VersaOBJECT MO-180 flatbed UV printer.
Creating colorful images easily
The workshop was held at a special venue in the Daimaru Shinsaibashi, the long-established department store in Osaka. We set up a special venue for a digital coloring book experience that was crowded with customers from Japan and abroad, including those who visited the Expo.
Visitors chose one of 11 different designs, such as animals, flying cars, and futuristic cities, and colored them using Wacom’s OLED tablets. In addition to coloring, participants were able to draw pictures and add letters by themselves. The finished coloring books displayed their creativity.
The staff carefully explained how to use the illustration software while answering participants’ questions, such as, “What color to paint with,” and “How to arrange the letters.”
The finished coloring books were made into 50mm square acrylic keychains using the VersaOBJECT MO-180 flatbed UV printer installed at the venue. Participants observed the printer with interest as the coloring books were printed.
When the keychain was finished printing, both children and adults were smiling. They carefully took home a special keychain that was unique in the world with the pictures they drew printed vividly in high definition.

Disseminating manufacturing to people in Japan and abroad
While the Expo was being held, many people from Japan and abroad visited the workshop. Some people participated because the presence of the VersaOBJECT MO-180 flatbed UV printer attracted their attention.
Participants were able to enjoy coloring while devising ways to give shape to their ideas. We conveyed the wonder of creation to a wide range of people.
We were able to provide an exciting workshop experience with the MO-180, which delivers high-speed, high-definition printing and excellent usability. As a keepsake memory of the Expo or summer vacation, participants enjoyed making their one-of-a-kind souvenirs.
