Roland DG Accelerates development of 3D Products

Reference models to be displayed in shows and exhibits worldwide

Hamamatsu, Japan, May 14, 2014 Roland DG Corporation (TOKYO:6789), the world's leading manufacturer of wide-format inkjet printers and 3D devices, today announced acceleration of development of the 3D products and exhibition plans of the products in key 3D shows worldwide.

Roland DG emphasizes "Create Opportunities for New Growth in Creative Fields" as a key business measure in the medium-term business plan starting from 2013 and prioritizes on "developing business models for new areas of 3D monozukuri." Along with this, two new products are under development to meet needs of subtractive prototyping and additive prototyping.

Profile of new products:

One is the latest version of a compact SRP (Subtractive Rapid Prototyping) machine featuring advanced milling technology built in the 30 years company’s history and another product is the company’s first ARP (Additive Rapid Prototyping) machine, a stereo-lithography 3D printer with layered projection system.

Two devices are designed to enable people to bring ideas to life, with complementary features and a broad range of fabrication capabilities. As only few manufacturers offer both SRP and ARP technologies, the introduction of those two new products further strengthens company’s position as a manufacturer that creates additional value for customers.

Roland DG has been developing proprietary 3D digital devices since 1986 under the slogan of "Inspire the Enjoyment of Creativity." These 3D products all share the same characteristics: compact size, ease of use and affordability. The company has been promoting the concept of "desktop fabrication" that enables users to easily transform images into real objects simply by connecting its products to computers, even without specialist knowledge of digital manufacturing.

Introduction timing of the new products:

Market launch timing of the two new products is scheduled in fall 2014. Specific timing and detailed product information to follow accordingly.

Participation in shows and exhibits with new products:

Prior to the official launch, the new prototype products are scheduled to be displayed in key shows globally for the purpose of market research. Show plans will be communicated in the corporate website.
